Twelve Doctors from Central WA Family Medicine Residency Program will be providing the screenings, August 29th, from 3pm-5pm, at Washington Middle School YAKIMA, WA – Central Washington Family Medicine Residency Program, a service of Community Health of Central Washington (CHCW), will be offering FREE sport physicals to 60-90 children at Washington Middle School on Wednesday, August 29th, from 3pm-5pm. The residency program has been providing no cost sports screenings for any student at the school, especially the school’s at-risk population, for more than a decade.

“What began as a few physicals in July grew to encompass any pupil at Washington Middle School at the start of school that needed a sports physical to participate in after school activities,” says Russell Maier, MD, Program Director,

“This annual service offers our students a no-cost way to obtain the required sports physicals that has the potential to lead them to make healthy choices in the future,” says Sara Day, Assistant Principal, Washington Middle School. “Thanks to the donated time and services of the physicians of CWFM Residency more than 1,000 students have received free physicals since they began serving our students in 2002.”

This year, 12 physicians from CWFM Residency will be providing the sports screenings and also will be offering students additional information on nutrition and maintaining active, healthy lifestyles. These screenings are for Washington Middle School students only, although CWFM Residency provides low cost screenings throughout the year at their medical clinic. For more information about sports screenings, please call (509) 452-4520 or visit us online at

About Central Washington Family Medicine Residency Program

Central WA Family Medicine Residency Program, a service of Community Health of Central Washington, is a 30 resident family medicine residency program and provides a rich learning experience. Residents learn to provide community based comprehensive and continuous ambulatory care to medically underserved patients representative of the cultural, socio-economic and demographic diversity of Central Washington. The program provides full spectrum Family Medicine training including OB, integrated behavioral health, osteopathic manipulation medicine, procedural training and inpatient pediatric and adult medicine. Residency is the last component of physician training following medical school and prior to specialty certification and entry into independent practice.
