Fall into Wellness: Managing Allergies & Supporting Healthy Growth
As the leaves turn and the air grows crisp, CHCW invites families to embrace fall as a season of proactive care.
With school back in session and routines reestablished, it’s the perfect time to address two health concerns that often surface this time of year: seasonal allergies and childhood obesity.

Breathe Easier This Season
Autumn brings beauty—but also a spike in allergens. Ragweed pollen, mold spores from fallen leaves, and indoor irritants like dust mites can trigger sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and fatigue.
For children especially, unmanaged allergies can interfere with sleep, concentration, and overall well-being.
CHCW’s Allergy Care Tips:
Know the Triggers:
Ragweed pollen peaks in early fall. Mold thrives in damp leaves and school buildings. Indoor allergens increase as windows close.

Monitor Symptoms:
If your child has persistent nasal congestion, coughing, or watery eyes, it may be more than a cold.

Keep It Clean:
Regularly wash bedding, vacuum with HEPA filters, and use air purifiers to reduce indoor allergens.

Seek Support:
CHCW providers offer allergy evaluations, treatment plans, and medication guidance tailored to your child’s needs.

Childhood Obesity Awareness: Building Healthier Futures
September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month—a time to reflect on how we can support children in developing lifelong habits that nurture physical and emotional health. In Central Washington, nearly 1 in 5 children are affected by obesity, increasing their risk for diabetes, heart disease, and low self-esteem.

Healthy Habits Start At Home
- Balanced Meals: Prioritize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit sugary drinks and processed snacks.
- Active Play: Encourage at least 60 minutes of movement daily—bike rides, dancing, sports, or even chores count!
- Screen Time Boundaries: Set limits on devices and promote tech-free family time.
- Positive Language: Focus on strength, energy, and feeling good—not weight or appearance.
